SUNTEC INTEGRATED MEDIA HEEDS INDUSTRY CONCERNS
ON CHINA DIVE EXPO

8 February 2007 (Singapore) – Organiser of world-class international dive exhibitions in Asia, Suntec Integrated Media (SIM), has announced today that it will not be organising China Dive Expo (CDEX) in Hong Kong this year.

SIM’s announcement follows extensive discussions with various dive industry stakeholders including tourism boards, associations, equipment manufacturers and distributors. It has taken into serious account concerns raised regarding the existence of two dive events in China and the duplication of resources in having two dive shows in a weaning dive market. Therefore, despite receiving sterling support from associations like the Diving Equipment & Marketing Association (DEMA) and keen interest from a number of dive businesses, SIM has decided that it is in the best interest of the dive industry as a whole that it does not proceed with CDEX in 2007.

Said Roel van Leeuwen, Director of Suntec Integrated Media, “We firmly believe in the potential of the North Asia market and we look forward to an opportune time in the near future when China Dive Expo will serve that market. This year, we will focus all our efforts in delivering an unprecedented ADEX in Thailand and we look forward to the continued enthusiasm from both exhibitors and trade professionals for the upcoming show. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all our dive industry partners who have shared their expert advice and offered their support.”

“As an association with a stake in the growth of the dive industry in Asia, we support SIM’s decision to withhold the organisation of CDEX in 2007 and to focus on ADEX instead. SIM has correctly surmised the market confusion that could be created by two similar and competing events being held in China and has taken a bold stance to deliver a China programme when the timing correctly supports the market. DEMA has always supported SIM and will continue to play an active role in its dive events. At the moment, we are looking forward to ADEX where we will have an even bigger presence this year,” said Tom Ingram, Executive Director, Diving Equipment & Marketing Association (DEMA).

Echoing this sentiment, Clement Lee, Managing Director, Borneo Divers added, "SIM’s dive events are conducted with the utmost professionalism and their efforts to contribute to the industry are evident. Their decision not to proceed with CDEX this year is a very commendable and bold move taken for the benefit and best interest of the dive industry though it may be disappointing for some exhibitors and consumers.”

Suntec Integrated Media will announce plans for CDEX beyond 2007 as soon as possible.
